Adding a serial RS232 port to a laptop or desktop via a free USB-A port

Extend your USB-A enabled data terminal (DTE – e.g. desktop or laptop) with serial RS-232 communication using this 3 m long USB-to-serial adapter cable.

Serial expansion

The USB-to-serial adapter adds an RS-232 DB/DE-9 (male) serial port to a desktop or laptop computer via a USB Type-A port. Attach the adapter to a serial device using the pre-installed and removable slotted D-sub thumbscrews, or install the included DB-9 nuts for compatibility with other serial devices or cables.

LED displays

The LED indicators for data transmission and reception on the adapter allow for real-time monitoring of connection activity. The USB LED indicates whether the adapter has successfully connected to the desktop or laptop computer. All LEDs aid in diagnosis and troubleshooting.

Seamless connectivity

The adapter is compatible with Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, and Linux. Drivers for Windows 7 and later, macOS 10.15 and later, and Linux are installed automatically. The USB to RS-232 adapter features a COM retention function that automatically reassigns the COM port value when the cable is unplugged and replugged, or when the system is restarted.
