Detecting connection utilization – with IEEE Energy-Efficient Ethernet (EEE)
The IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) feature automatically detects the traffic volume on the network and dynamically adjusts power consumption. This enables the switch to reduce power consumption during periods of low link usage. The GS1100 series has an on/off switch for IEEE 802.3az to further reduce power consumption. With this switch, users can activate the environmentally friendly Energy Efficient Ethernet mode with just a simple push of a button or get the best performance without negatively affecting the transmission.

Detection of inactive connections
By detecting idle connections, the power consumption is automatically reduced when a downed network device or an idle connection is detected. The Zyxel GS1100 series can adjust the power consumption according to the connection status and the number of active network devices.

Detection of cable length
This environmentally friendly feature allows the switch to automatically detect the length of the connected Ethernet cables and adjust the power consumption accordingly. The shorter the Ethernet cable, the less power consumed.

Fanless design
The fanless design of all GS1100 series models enables silent operation in small or quiet office environments. The GS1100-8HP and the PoE model GS1100-10HP are specially designed with an external power supply so that no additional fan is required to cool the device, making it perfect for quiet PoE implementations.
