Power X-Change: Swap your battery

Power X-Change is Einhell's new battery system. It stands for multifunctionality, compatibility, and cost savings. But what exactly is it? It consists of 18V batteries with five different capacities that can power over 20 different tools.

What makes these tools special is not only the modern battery technology that makes them so powerful, but also the fact that they can all be purchased individually, without a battery or charger. This means you don't have to buy a charger and battery for each tool. That saves money and is better for the environment.

Who isn't familiar with the jumble of different chargers for cell phones, cordless screwdrivers, tablets, laptops, etc.? It's insane how much material is used, and especially how many electrical outlets are occupied. Depending on the application, you can combine batteries with capacities from 1.5 Ah to 5.2 Ah.

The advantages of battery-powered devices are now well-known, and anyone who has used them doesn't want to be dependent on long, tangled power cords again. With very powerful tools, such as a cordless lawnmower, you also have the option of combining two batteries and utilizing the full 36V!

You therefore don't need to buy expensive 36V batteries that are only compatible with the lawnmower; you can use the same batteries as for your cordless drill, utility saw, or string trimmer. The crucial point is that, despite being battery-powered, modern tools are in no way inferior to their corded counterparts in terms of performance.

Performance naturally depends on the quality of the battery cells used and the technology of the chargers. The Power X-Change series uses only high-quality lithium-ion battery cells from brand-name manufacturers. Thanks to microprocessors, these are individually addressed during the charging process, ensuring optimal charging. You can monitor the charge level before and during each use with the help of the three built-in LEDs. This prevents unpleasant surprises with only half-charged batteries, while the lithium-ion technology also prevents self-discharge and the notorious memory effect from the outset.

During operation, electronic monitoring ensures that the batteries are not overloaded. This significantly extends their operating time and lifespan, reflecting our philosophy of developing the most environmentally friendly products possible. The batteries are protected against impacts and shocks by an outer rubber coating and a robust casing, making them suitable for even the most demanding applications.

But what does all this mean in practical terms?

The Power X-Change system in the garden

You want to mow your lawn, so you load the Einhell cordless lawnmower with two 18V batteries and get right to work. After the lawn is neatly mowed, you take one battery from the lawnmower and insert it into the Einhell grass trimmer. Now you trim the lawn edges and neatly cut away the last few blades of grass along your house wall. While doing this, you notice the hedge, which looks nice but has grown quite a bit in recent weeks. With a click, the battery switches to the cordless hedge trimmer. It easily trims back the overgrown hedge. Thanks to the battery operation, the whole process is significantly quieter than with conventional tools. But the best part is that you don't have to deal with long cables that, in the worst-case scenario, get tangled between the tool and the greenery. In addition, long cables have the annoying characteristic of being a very effective tripping hazard.

Once you've made the final cut, grab the leaf blower, use a concentrated stream of air to sweep the loose clippings into a pile, and toss it into the compost bin. Then you remember you could quickly clear the path to the house with the leaf blower. Without having to wind up or unplug a cord, you walk to the front, do it quickly, and you're done for the day. Gardening can be that easy…

The Power X-Change system when working with wood

Using the cordless jigsaw, you cut seven boards to the specified dimensions. Thanks to the bright LED and the blower, you can see your cutting lines perfectly. Remove the battery from the jigsaw and insert it into the cordless drill. Using the drill and a Forstner bit, drill a large hole in the center of the upper third of one of the boards. The 18V battery allows you and your drill to easily handle the large Forstner bit. Next, using the same battery and the multi-sander, you sand the edges and surfaces of the boards to a smooth finish. The integrated dust collection container ensures that the dust stays inside the sander. Put the battery back into the drill and continue screwing the boards together. Because you've correctly set the torque limiter, the screws are flush with the boards. Now, after swapping the battery again, you use the multi-saw to cut a roof batten to your desired length. Thanks to its light weight, the multi-saw is exceptionally easy to handle, and the cut is correspondingly clean. The sawn-off roof batten is buried about half a meter deep at the edge of the flower bed. The seven screwed-together boards are then attached to the top of the batten using brackets and screws, and… the birdhouse is finished.

The whole thing took place outdoors, outside the workshop and independent of any power outlets or extension cords. This makes the tedious cleanup considerably faster. You only have to pack your tools; there's no need to untangle and wind up any cables. If necessary, you equip the leaf blower with the aforementioned battery and blow away the sawdust. Voilà!
