The XS505M and XS508M are equipped with copper Ethernet ports that provide either Fast Ethernet, 1 Gigabit, 2.5 Gigabit, 5 Gigabit or 10 Gigabit connectivity. An SFP+ fiber port with 1 Gigabit or 10 Gigabit connectivity is also available.
Each port automatically detects what speed is required by the connected device and delivers the appropriate speed. Unlike regular 10 Gigabit switches that only provide 1 Gigabit connectivity for any device that requires less than 10 Gigabits, the XS505M delivers exactly the speed required, without downgrading. The new NETGEAR Multi-Speed Switch ports can also be connected with regular Cat5E Ethernet cables without upgrading existing cables to Cat6. This avoids the cost and hassle of new cabling.
