5 modes = 6 possibilities
This calculation works! The controller supports RAID modes 0, 1, 3, 5, and 10. However, you can also set it to single, so that each hard drive is recognized and read/written to individually. Externally, you can connect the enclosure via either USB 3.0 or eSATA, both of which are known for their fast data transfer rates.

And yet so simple
Several LEDs indicate whether the hard drives are connected and via which interface, and whether they are being accessed. They also indicate whether automatic fan control is being used and the fan speed setting.
